Let's get him to work on that 2.8 GPA (according to Rivals.com), however... But, who needs a GPA when you see him line up and take out a QB like this quality hit.

Derek Hoebing. OL. 6-6, 245-lbs, from Vermilion, Ohio. Hoebing turned down Northwestern, Virginia, Akron, Bowling Green, Miami (OH), and Maryland.

Also expresing interest were Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Akron, Bowling Green, and Indiana. According to his high school coach, "“He’s got a great opportunity in front of him to become a starter his second year there. They have a junior starter right now and then he’ll move right in and play. It’s a good thing for him, he likes the program and of course coach (Mark) Dantonio is there and he runs a great program. He’s got a chance to win a lot of games, be coached well and have a great experience."

Charles Burrell. CB/QB. 6-1, 200-lbs. Detroit, MI. Burrell hopes to play CB for MSU. He chose MSU over Minnesota, Notre Dame, Syracuse, UCLA, Illinois, Miami-FL, and scUM. Keyshawn Martin. WR. 6-0, 180-lbs. Westland (MI). Martin chose to don the green and white over Illinois and the Yellow Bellies. He runs a 4.4-40. A couple of articles on Keyshawn's playmaking ability are here and here (244 yards rushing, 2 TDs).

Chris McDonald. DE. Sterling Heights, MI. McDonald chose MSU over scUM, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, and Duke. The 6-5, 260-lb athlete can run a 4.65-40... impressive for high school, but he needs about 30 more pounds and lots of muscle!

Caulton Ray. RB. 5-9, 185-lbs. Birmingham (MI) Brother Rice. Ray is considered by the recruiting sources as a quality get in Michigan, a "3-star guy." In early September, he ran for 115 yards and a couple of scores in a 24-0 victory over Pennsylvania (PA) Hills (link here). Caulton runs a 4.47-40 according to Rivals.com. He chose MSU over, Michigan, Cincy, and the MAC (Akron, Bowling Green, EMU, CMU).

Trenton Robinson. DB. 5-10, 175-lbs. Bay City, MI. Robinson seems a little small for a DB, but a 4.4-40 means he might be a good return guy or slot receiver some day.

David Rolf. LB. 6-3, 220-lbs. Picqua, OH. Rolf chose MSU over Oregon, Utah, Vanderbilt, Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Air Force. He runs a 4.49 40 yard dash and Rivals considers him a good get with a 3-star rating.

Brynden Trawick. S. 6-3, 215-lbs. Marietta, Georgia. Trawick (bio) has said he would don the Green and White for MSU. This is kinda a surprise, here is a solid recruit who was on noone's radar... but the Doctor's success in year one certainly has made an impact on this young player. Trawick is built like Bob Sanders, as a freshman: 6-3, 215-lbs. He chose MSU over Ohio State, Boston College, Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and NC State. Rivals places Trawick #57 of safeties in this year's lot. Certainly a nice find for MD.

Myles White. WR. 6-0, 165-lbs. Livonia, MI. Rivals.com rates this guy with two-stars. Scout.com says: "White has outstanding speed and quickness. He is a fine athlete with good body control and comes out of his breaks quickly and smoothly. He has outstanding hands and makes tough grabs in coverage. He shows the ability to be an outstanding downfield receiver but must add size and strength as he has a very slight build. If he does that, he could develop into a great slot / over the middle receiver because of his hands and route running. Great athlete who also was a track standout at Stevenson. Along with his twin brother, QB Mitchell White, helped lead Stevenson to an undeafeated regular season as a senior, while catching 14 passes for 452 yards and nine touchdowns."

Dawawn Whitner. DL. 6-3, 300-lbs (bio). Cleveland, OH. Has yet to qualify. Stay tuned... 2007 Recruits

22 recruits committed.

Andre Anderson. RB. Barrington, IL. 5-8, 186-lbs. Anderson has joined the Spartan Nation after the Minny Gophers fired coach Glen Mason. The 5-8, 186 back runs a swift 4.4-40, and reminds many of his cousin, Damien Anderson, who was an All-America at Northwestern in their glory years of the mid-1990s. Anderson picked MSU over Minny, Indiana, Iowa State, EMU, and Northern Illinois. Th guy ran for 2,135 yds and 33 TDS... in ONE YEAR. Damn, that's fantastic: Mike Hart-like in HS. Rivals gives Anderson 3-stars and Scout give Anderson 2-stars. Nice pick up, and solid addition for the future of the program, he seems like the next coming of Javon Ringer.

Aaron Bates. P. New Concord, OH. 6-0, 190-lbs.. Bates chose MSU over Notre Dame, Northwestern, Purdue, W. Virginia, Clemson, Maryland, Ohio, and Youngstown State. Expect him to start immediately with the graduation of All-American Brandon Fields. Scout.com rates Bates with 2-stars.

Duran is ranked the #67 TE in the nation by Scout.com. Scout states: "missed the first five games of his junior year due to an ankle injury but came on strong in the second half of the season. He excels as a blocker but will need to continue to develop the pass catching side of his game."

Nick Foles. QB. 6-5, 235-lb. Austin, Texas. Foles committed to Arizona State, but a coaching change left the door open. He also considered offers from Virginia, Ole Miss, and Baylor before visiting MSU this weekend and deciding on the Spartans. Last year, Foles threw for 3,266 yards and 32 touchdowns. Something to watch is that Foles was injured last year on his right shoulder in the fourth game. He continued to play, and according to the Lansing State Journal, "eventually had surgery to repair a torn labrum about five weeks ago." The same doctor that operated on former Purdue All-American Drew Brees performed the surgery on Foles. He will rehab for six months.

Rivals.com rates Jeremiah as the #4 player out of Ohio, and the #13 defensive lineman in the nation. He runs a 5.05-40 yard dash. Scout.com states this: "...a terrific run stopper in the middle. He has great size and moves pretty well for a guy his size. Jeremiah uses his hands well and is a guy that commands a double team. If not, he will simply eat you up on the inside. Ishmyl Johnson. DE. New Berlin, NY. 6-5, 250-lbs. This guy runs a swift 4.8-40 yard dash, but his mug shot looks MEAN. Rivals ranks him with two-stars as the #47 star coming out of prep schools. He chose MSU over Syracuse, Illinois, Temple and Pitt.

Greg Jones. LB. Cincinnati, OH. 6-0, 210-lbs. Jones is considered a 3-star strongside 'backer by both Scout and Rivals. He's got some speed, with a 4.6-40 yard dash. When MSU heard that the Buckeyes pulled their scholarship offer, Spartan coaches were down there the next day. Ron Stoops, Jr., who is from the SE Ohio area and who has already committeed to MSU, is lured the prospect to the Spartans. Williams was a 3-star rated wideout by Rivals.com; he's listed as the #29 WR in the nation and the #9 player overall in Ohio. He runs a 4.43-40 and is already academically eligible. Also offering were Iowa and Cincinnati.

Here is a scouting report on Willams from Insiders.com from September 16, 2003: "Unfortunately, I only got to see Miles Williams of Austintown Fitch in his game on Friday night for four plays but, believe it or not, I saw enough. Fitch beat neighboring Canfield 48-40 in a shootout.
On the very first play of the game, Williams came up from his safety position to lay a big hit on a Canfield ball carrier, making his presence known on defense immediately. And then two plays later Williams took a punt from his own 29 yard line and raced every-which-way, covering 71 yards, for a score. The return was Ted Ginn Jr.-like.
"I was screaming at him to get to the wall and then I'm screaming, ‘Oh my,' it was awesome," said Fitch head coach Neal Kopp. "I was fortunate enough to have a front row seat for it, one of the best seats in the house. He did it last week too on a kickoff when GlenOak scored to make it 28-20. He had a 65-yard kickoff return.
"He's just flat-out electric, and I've yet to see the first guy there bring him down. He'll lower his should if he has to and if he has the opportunity to use his athletic ability, he's stunning."
Unfortunately for Williams, he re-tweaked a hamstring on the punt return that he believes he originally tweaked while warming up before the game.
"During pregame when we were stretching as a team in the wrestling room, one of my coaches stretched my hamstring out," Williams said. "I laid on the ground and he just lifted my leg up and started pushing. He pushed a little too far and you could hear like a tear or a crack. I came out for pregame for specialists and it felt all right. I was sprinting and it felt all right.
"But on that punt return I made a cut and I could feel it just tighten up. I couldn't really do anything after that. I can't even jog. I would have played if I could, no matter how bad it was, but I couldn't."
The initial diagnosis from the medical people on the sideline was a grade-A pull which is the least serious one I was told.
"I'll be ready for next week," Williams said. "This is the first for me, that's why I didn't know how to take it when I first heard something pull or crack, I didn't know. But then on that punt it just tightened up. But they said I should be all right for next week."
A week earlier, Williams, a two-way performer for the Falcons, missed some playing time on the field as well.
"I had stomach cramps in the first half and they said they were going to keep me out on offense for the second half," he said. "But I still played on defense."
Fitch, 3-1 on the campaign, could have obviously used Williams against Canfield, especially on defense as the Cardinals passed for 421 yards on the evening.
"Miles in the secondary, I guarantee at corner, would have probably clamped down on that receiver that had all of those yards much better," Kopp said. "And also from a standpoint that he's one of our captains and one of our team leaders."
Williams has been getting the bulk of his playing time on offense this year at tailback and not as a receiver, the position that Ohio State recruited him to play. But Kopp did say that they were game planning to use him some as a wideout against Canfield.
"We want to use Miles more at receiver because we feel that Mike Elisio is a good tailback," Kopp said. "That was going to be our plans tonight that Miles would do a little bit of both and unfortunately he strained a hamstring -- I guess that's what it is -- and he's just got to get it healed up."
Despite the setbacks for Williams in the past two games that has caused him to miss some playing time, Kopp still gives Williams more than a passing grade on the campaign.
"He's just been outstanding," the coach said. "It's unfortunate he's lost two games now (offensively) but he is truly -- he might be a receiver down at Ohio State -- but he is truly one outstanding tailback. We're going to need him down the road because it's apparent that he's electric when he has the ball in his hands, and hopefully he will be all right."

Daniel Zynn. DT. 6-4, 305-lb. Pasadena, Calif. Zynn originally commited to Boise State where he was scheduled to red-shirt his freshman year, but instead made the decision to leave the Idaho school and go the JC route. Zynn spent last year at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA., Zynn originally played at South Pasadena HS in Pasadena, CA. before enrolling at the junior college. Zynn is considered a 3-star juco DT, ranked #43 in the nation by Insiders.com. Insiders states: "A solid defensive line prospect who was a standout at the Nike Camp in Northern California. Has good size and strength and brings everything he has to the table on every down. Earned All CIF honors last season after tallying 67 tackles, 30 for loss and seven quarterback sacks." While a high school student at Madison (Miss.) Central, Brown had back to back 2,600 yard seasons.

Bush runs a 4.5-40. SpartansInsider.com lists him as a 2-star recruit, #122 nationally overall. He was also considering Colorado and Baylor. Link to K. Bush bio.

Jehuu Caulcrik. RB. 6-0, 235. Clymer, New ork. Caulcrick can run a 4.41-40. Last season, the two-time all-state player ran for 1,670 yards and 33 TDs. His career numbers stand at 4,398 yards over three years. Other national powerhouses (!) Maryland, Pittsburgh and Rutgers also were in the bidding for Caulcrick.

MSU recruit Caulcrick: 251 yds rush

Irving Campbell. WR. 6-0, 180. Palm Beach, FL. Campbell is also a three-star recruit, though not rated by Rivals100.com. He runs a 4.5-40, caught 46 passes for 829 yards and and scored five times during his senior season.

Samuel Champagne is 6-3, 205-pounds, and will suit up this fall for State. He twice played for the Canadian Junior National Team, and was ranked by SLAM Sports as the #4 college prospect coming out of Canada in 2002 (of note, the #3 prospect was Dan Bass out of Ardrossan, Alberta -- his father was a Spartan -- and Bass attended the MSU elite camp last year). Champagne was also recruited by Wake Forest, Syracuse and Stanford. He's from the same school (Vieux Montreal, CAN) as Ziehl Kavanaght.

Sean Clayton. QB. 6-5, 230. Poland, OH. 4.7-50. Clayton was the NE Ohio offensive player of the year. As a senior, Clayton passed for 2,000 yards, 19 touchdowns, completed 68% with just 4 interceptions. Clayton chose MSU over Louisville and several MAC schools.

Peter Clifford. OL. 6-7, 315. N. Bridgton, Maine. Work in progress; can bench 325-lbs. From a program that passes 35+ times per game.

DeAndra Cobb. RB/DB. 5-10, 180-lbs. Antelope Valley (CA) Junior College. Cobb will participate in Spring drills. Cobb ran for over 1,100 yards last season and fills an immediate need at running back since the departure of David Richard; he has two years of eligibility (the ES must point out that juco transfers haven't been exactly the brightest stars at MSU in recent history). He turned down an offer from Baylor to don the green & white.

William Cooper. DB. 6-1, 190. Flint Northern. Cooper was ranked #5 in the state and was ranked as one of the top 100 players in the nation after leaving Flint Northern in 2002.

Cole Corey. DB/RB. 5-11, 185, Tecmuseh. Corey runs a 4.5-40 and was not ratedby Rivals100.com; SpartansInsider.com rated Corey one-star. According to Rivals: "A fine all-around athlete. Good speed. Long jumper in track."

Mike Gyetvai. OL. 6'6", 300-lbs. Windsor, Ontario. Gyetvai played for Windsor Sandwich Secondary School, one of the top programs in Canada and is one of the top OL prospects in Canada. He also considered Toledo and Central Michigan. Rivals100.com rates him as a three-star recruit. Link here for Gyetvai bio.

Griff Howard. QB/DB. 6'2", 185-lbs, Port Charlotte (Fla). Howard pulled up his anchor and headed for dry land -- he'll be a Spartan this fall after telling the Naval Academy to ship off. He was recruited as an option QB for the Navy, but will likely fill MSU's needs at DB this fall. According to the Port Charlotte Sun Herald, "Howard, a Sun All-Area selection and Class 4A honorable mention all-state, accounted for more than 2,000 offensive yards last season, though the commitment to Michigan State means he'll have to set aside his penchant for playing quarterback. Michigan State needed a speedy defensive back, and Howard's 4.45-second time in the 40-yard dash and 10.83 automated in the 100 meters did not hurt his Division I-A stock." But, SpartansInsiders.com have him running a 4.66-40 yard dash at the Nike Camp at 6-1, 165-lbs. The ES buys the Nike Camp data over the Sun-Herald's article... a Florida guy from Navy just doesn't "slip away" from Miami-Fla, FSU, or Fla.

Jamar Jones. WR. 6'4", 200-lbs. Arcadia, FL. Runs a 4.5-40.; Jones is a second team all state selection at wide receiver in the state of Florida. Jamar also is a star basketball teams for his high school squad.

Terry Love. WR. 6-0, 170. Maywood, IL. Love has a #31 national rank and three-stars from Rivals100.com and #89 national rank and three-stars from SpartansInsider.com. He runs a 4.5-40. According to that site, Love was "named all-state in 2001. Had 1,175 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns as a junior. A top Midwest prospect at the Wide Receiver position. Tremendous hands and excellent after the catch. Also a basketball and baseball standout." Love had committed to Wisconsin. Link to Love bio.

John Masters. OL. 6-5, 265. Carmel, IN. Masters picked MSU over Indiana, Purdue, Bowling Green and Toledo. Coach John L. was recruiting Masters while at Louisville, and he has now brought Masters up to MSU. Masters was named all-state as a senior and was all-county as a junior. He is ranked as a top-10 overall player in Indiana by SpartansInsider.com. Spartans Insider gives Masters' a one-star rating (out of five). He runs a 5.1-40 yard dash. Link here for bio.

Darryl Melvin. DE. 6'6", 240-lbs. Nassau (C.C), NY. Melvin runs a 4.7-40. Melvin was a second team junior college All American in 2002. He chose MSU over Ohio State and West Virginia; he ran for 1,349 yards and 18 TDs last year on offense while compiling 50+ tackles, six sacks and two fumble recoveries on defense. His dad, Travis Davis, played for MSU from 1986-89. Link here to bio.

Kaleb Thornhill. DE. 6-2, 210. Lansing Eastern. 4.6-40.

Joe Toth. OL. 6-3, 280. Port Charlotte, Florida. Ranked as one of the top 5 linemen in Florida. Toth, though not ranked in the top 100 nationally by any of the recruiting sits, the Lansing State Journal stated Toth runs an impressive 4.87-40 yard dash; it is critical for linemen in the spread offense to have that speed and movement. The Spartans are looking to use him at guard or center. He is a 2-star recruit by Rivals100.com ;SpartansInsider.com states he ran a 5.5-40 yard dash, but also states that he was "a standout at the Down & Dirty Lineman camp and has the ability to be a 4-year starter."
